Decorated endpapers on 11th edition volumes; color maps, black and white illustrations and charts. Printed on “onionskin” paper with page edges in gilt. Overall very good, but individual volumes show minor defects. Most volumes show superficial creasing and minor sunning to spines, some show sporadic rubbing to boards, periodic light rippling to margins, tide marks to the bottom edges of volumes 4-7, previously existing repair to a map in Vol. 5, rear endpaper of Vol 1 is creased; contents clean and bright, bindings sound. Leather Bound. Generally regarded as the finest edition of the Encylopedia Britannica, “the 11th” has maintained a loyal following due to it’s impeccable scholarship and enduring readability. Overall, very good+. Hardcover. Peter Scott was a noted 20th century ornithologist, artist, conservationist and a founding member of the World Wildlife Fund. A remarkable and beautiful work – it was completed when he was only twenty-five – it is a testament to his love of birds and nature.
