Winnipeg Photo Album, 1914-1917

Hand-decorated suede album of 24 leaves tied with string, containing 96 captioned photos.

The aftermath of the Continental Oil Company fire; a view of the Swift Canadian Company Plant (Swift later donated the land to the city for the establishment of a park, which became Ernie O’Dowda park) -mhs.mb.ca.; YWCA ladies at Winnipeg Beach; Montrose Ave., looking east (now Larsen Ave., in East Kildonan); there are several photos of “our house” on Montrose Ave, being a wide dirt road flanked by boardwalks.

Many additional fascinating photos add to the intrigue of this album, and to the historical record, including a photo of a soldier in uniform dated 1914, named in the caption to be a soldier who died in 1916; local parks; farming activity in Treherne; Assiniboine Park grounds and animals in captivity; the 1916 Norwood flood, etc.
